Prof. Ping Zhang

Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT)

"5G Communication in China"

Abstract:

In recent years, mobile communication systems have rapidly developed over all the world. Today, 4G LTE/LTE-advanced systems have been deployed in many countries to meet the demand of explosive wireless services. Moreover, technologies and discussions on next generation mobile communications, i.e., 5G communications, are also active, targeting the launch in 2020.

As the largest number of mobile subscribers in the world, the development of 5G systems in China has received much attention. Moreover, the investment by Chinese government in the R&D for 5G system is significantly increased in recent years. In this talk, we will introduce the main 5G development plans in China, discuss the future work plan in China, and present the latest development of key enabling techniques in 5G radio transmission and networking. Finally, we will talk about the requirement of test verification for 5G systems, and present an test trial for 5G system which tests the performance of key enabling techniques, e.g., Massive MIMO, Polar code and SCMA and so on.

"TD-LTE Evolution and 5G Directions"

Abstract:

TD-LTE has been regarded as an important milestone for the Chinese telecommunication industry in the 4G era, and it has received considerable attention around the world and has shown astonishingly fast development in recent years. This presentation presents TD-LTE status and its evolution. Furthermore, in order to meet the requirement of the information society in 2020 and beyond, a new generation (5G) mobile broadband system is promoted. After presenting an overview of 5G including scenarios, KPIs and technology roadmaps, this presentation pays attention to TDD’s role in 5G and presents a series of TDD priority technologies, such as massive MIMO, ultra dense network, high frequency bands, flexible spectrum sharing and also Pattern Division Multiple Access (PDMA). Dr. Chen also present LTE-V, a vehicular communication solution based on TD-LTE technology. Finally, Dr. Chen points out that TDD will play a more important role in 5G.
